Meeting Owl Pro Software Release Notes

This article applies to the Meeting Owl Pro

Meeting Owl Pro will automatically send over the air software updates to Owls that are connected to Wi-Fi and plugged into power over night.

To determine what version of software is on your Owl, follow these steps.

If your Owl’s software is out of date, please see instructions for how to update your Owl's software.

Version 2.1.0.13

Release Date: November 23rd, 2020

Please note that this version is only currently available in North America.

Bug fixes:

  • After breaking a Pro Connect pair by connecting the Secondary Owl to a computer via USB, the Primary Owl will no longer show the single-faded-Owl Pairs icon in its next meeting.
  • After breaking a Pro Connect pair by resetting the Secondary Owl in the Meeting Owl App, the Primary Owl will no longer show the single-faded-Owl Pairs icon in its next meeting.
  • Pro Connect pairs will no longer disconnect and reconnect throughout the course of a meeting due to abrupt changes in lighting, such as the Primary Owl being too close to a TV or monitor.

Bug fix:

Bug fixes:

  • When powering off an Owl that was previously paired and re-pairing the remaining Owl from that pair with a new Owl, auto-reconnect will no longer interfere with creating the new pair in the same Primary/Secondary roles.
  • After re-pairing and switching the roles of the Primary and Secondary Owls, the Secondary Owl will no longer stop producing audio.
  • Camera lock will no longer move the Secondary Owl’s video in the wrong direction while pairing two Owls that are flipped 180°.
  • When continuing to use the Primary Owl after disconnecting the pair of two Meeting Owl Pros, the Secondary Owl will no longer look for the Primary Owl by keeping its eyes lit up.
  • The Owl’s intelligence system will no longer show the incorrect Active Speaker while pairing two Owls that are flipped 180°.
  • When using Camera Lock on the Secondary Owl’s camera, it will no longer show the Primary Owl’s 360° Panoramic Strip.
  • After ending a meeting with Camera Lock On and the 360° Panoramic Strip Off, these settings will no longer default in the next meeting that starts within 5 minutes.
  • When ending a meeting with Camera Lock in use, the Camera Lock icon will no longer carry over into the next meeting.
  • After powering off the Secondary Owl and powering it on again mid-meeting, it will no longer struggle to find the Primary Owl and rejoin the meeting.

Enhancements:

  • The Meeting Owl Pro greeting message has been updated to say: “Hello and thank you for choosing the Meeting Owl. To get started, download the Meeting Owl App on your tablet or smartphone.”

Version 1.8.0.29

Release Date: August 25th, 2020

Access to the Pro Connect feature through the Meeting Owl app in this release requires iOS app version 2.7.0(11). Pro Connect is not yet available for Android. Android app 2.4.4(8) is required to see Owls on this release in the Nearby List of the app. Please note that this version is only currently available in North America.

  • New Feature:
    • Pro Connect: Ability to pair two Meeting Owl Pros together to expand the video and audio reach of the Meeting Owl Pro to accommodate meetings in larger conference rooms, classrooms, and auditorium spaces. Please note: this feature is only currently available in North America.
  • Bug fixes:
    • Hardware Serial will not ask for a passcode when passcode lock is activated

If you are on software version 1.6.0.18 or below, you will be required to update first to 1.7.0.40 before you can update to 1.8.0.29. This will happen automatically to Owls connected to Wi-Fi and plugged into power overnight, but if you request the update via the app, you will need to update twice.

    • Added ability to flip the Camera 180° in the app in order to support mounting the Owl upside down.

Features accessed through the Meeting Owl app in this release require iOS app 2.5.1(7) and Android app 2.4.3(5), released on June 12th, 2020

  • New Features:
    • Added Pan, Tilt and Zoom controls for Camera Lock feature in the app. You can now control the vertical and horizontal position of the camera, as well as zoom it in and out in the app.
    • Disable / Enable 360° Panoramic Strip. 360° Pano can now be disabled and enabled through the Camera Controls section of the Meeting Owl app. 
  • Bug Fixes:
    • Improved audio quality for remote participants. 
    • Fixed behavior in 1.4.2.2 where red and blue lights above the buttons on the base of the Owl were not flashing when the Owl was rebooted when plugged into a computer. Lights will now flash when rebooted while plugged in via USB.
    • The Mute icon has been repositioned to the top of the stage when the 360° Pano has been disabled so it no longer blocs the center of the frame.
    • Home icon has been removed from stage when 360° Pano has been disabled.

New Instructions and Behavior for this release:

  • In order for the volume buttons on the Owl to control the volume controls in the Operating System after an over-the-air update to 1.6.0.18, you will need to select the Owl as your audio device in macOS and Windows 10. You will only need to do this once after you update.
  • System has changed to display audio device (microphone and speaker) from “Meeting Owl Pro” to “Echo Cancelling Speakerphone” on Windows 10 in video conferencing platforms and Device Manager.

    • Fixed issue where occasionally the speaker would not produce sound at the beginning of a meeting, requiring a reboot to produce sound.
    • Fixed issue where occasionally the microphones would not transmit audio to remote participants at the beginning of a meeting, which required a reboot to begin transmitting.
    • Fixed issue where a factory reset performed through the Meeting Owl app would not reset Camera Lock.
    • Fixed issue where Camera Lock would not be centered after the Shift Panoramic Strip feature in the app was used.
  • Enhancements:
    • Owl can no longer check into our server or perform an over the air software update while in a meeting. This prevents accidentally initiating a software update through the app and experiencing a reboot mid-meeting.

    • Improved issue where microphones would not transmit audio to remote participants at start up, which required a reboot to begin transmitting.
    • Fixed issue that caused the remote participants to hear cut outs and sudden volume fluctuations when the call transitioned between states (for example: from when local participants speak to when remote participants speak, or from when remote participants speak to when both participants speak at the same time). 
    • Fixed issue that caused remote participants to hear drop outs mid-speech, due to an issue with low frequency noise, causing Owl to mute its microphones in an attempt to cancel echo.
    • Panoramic shift slider in the Meeting Owl app will be reset to the default position when performing a factory reset in the Meeting Owl app.

  • Bug fix:
    • Fixed issue where customers in certain environments would experience half-duplex audio, meaning remote participants can’t hear participants in the room with the Owl when both participants are speaking at the same time.
    • Fixed issue where customers could not unlock Owl’s passcode when on older versions of Meeting Owl software and newer versions of Meeting Owl App.
    • Fixed issues with the Meeting Owl App’s panoramic shift feature:
      • Camera Lock is now displayed correctly when a panoramic shift selection is set
      • When a panoramic shift selection is set, the Owl's main stage will now correctly display participants in the order they appear on the panoramic strip when there is a split screen
      • Panoramic shift settings and advanced audio settings are now correctly reset to factory values when performing a factory reset in the Meeting Owl app.
  • New feature:
    • Added advanced audio settings for troubleshooting residual echo and half duplex issues for customers in challenging acoustic environments
    • Hardware serial number is displayed on Meeting Owl Apps version 2.4.0(6) (Android) and 2.4.4(5) (iOS) or above.

  • Bug fixes:
    • Fixed microphone issue caused by double talk detector control.
      • Toggling the double talk detector or noise reduction switch in the audio settings menu of the Meeting Owl App will no longer negatively impact the Owl’s microphones, causing fluctuating audio for remote participants.
      • Microphones previously affected by the double talk detector control issue will be corrected with an update to this software version.
    • Fixed issue where video could show a blank stage after camera lock was released.
    • Fixed rare issue where video would freeze after many hours of operation.
    • Fixed issue with volume control on linux machines where volume controls on Owl or host machine were not properly controlling the volume of the Owl.
  • New Features:
    • Owl’s Eyes will now flash when Owl is selected from the Nearby List on Android devices. (iOS devices will have already had this support)
    • Added control of the 360° Panoramic Strip focus position in the Meeting Owl App. You will now be able to scroll the Panoramic Strip to the desired location in the Meeting Owl app. This will allow you to position the TV to the recommended optimal location, or adjust the 360° view to your preference.
  • Enhancements:
    • Improved Speaker Spotlight functionality so that the Meeting Owl Pro detects and switches to meeting participants more accurately and quickly.
    • Camera Lock movements are smoother when sliding the stage to new locations.
